While the looming specter of defeat weighing down Friday night’s games, spirits were lifted as Washington County honored one of its most influential figures with a once-in-a-lifetime dedication during halftime.

Washington County honored retired coach Robert Cody by dedicating the field, granting it his namesake, where he spent more than 30 years coaching generations of student athletes.

Cody is practically a local legend in Plymouth, having been a fixture of the school’s athletics since 1985. The distinguished coach took a leave of absence from his coaching and teaching duties to care for his wife Ann in 2018. During his last few years on the field, his leadership allowed the Plymouth Vikings to secure six state championship appearances, taking the gold home a total three times...
