With each click of her camera's shutter, Hayley Spencer preserves a moment in time, weaving together the threads of love, laughter, and the eternal promise that defines a couple's most unforgettable day.
As a self-made and largely self-taught photographer, the Plymouth native has built a business that's not just about capturing images but chronicling the legacies of her clients.
The daughter of Mark and Dana Baur, Spencer grew up with a keen eye for beauty and a passion for sharing what she saw with others.
“I’ve always loved the arts, but I was especially into photography ever since I was a little girl,” she says. “Back then I always had one of those little disposable cameras to play around with. I always liked taking pictures of things… I never wanted to be in the pictures, I just wanted to capture them and I’m still the same way to this day.”
After graduating from Terra Ceia Christian School in 2015, Spencer initially decided to pursue her primary dream of joining the nursing field. However, she says that becoming a new mother made her hold off on that desire in the short term.
“Originally, I planned to go to nursing school but I ended up having a baby and that put a hold on things,” she recounts. “After I made that decision, I worked little odds and ends jobs for a while.”
Shortly after, Spencer would go on to meet her husband Jay and primarily live the life of a homemaker. During this period of time, she would rediscover her old photography passion and decide to take it to heights she’d only dreamed of prior.
In 2019 she founded the beginnings of what would become the Hayley B. Spencer Photography LLC., Business.
“It’s a business I started from the ground up,” she says proudly. “There was one day where it just clicked. I said you know what, I think I want to do photography. So I bought myself a camera, just a little cheap one that was nothing special and did what I could from there. Eventually I got better equipment and things just took off. These days it’s how I support myself.”
