Service continues amid hospital bankruptcy

Washington Regional Medical Center is in Chapter 11 bankruptcy again, with debt that includes nearly a quarter million dollars in delinquent local property tax.

Documents filed last week in the Eastern District of North Carolina list more than 70 creditors presently, including the Town of Plymouth and Washington County, where WRMC owes back taxes of $82,294 and $163,045, respectively.

WRMC CEO Frank Avignone did not respond to November 1 telephone calls seeking confirmation of the bankruptcy filing. However, later that day, he shared a press release dated October 29 with county officials. The Chapter 11 documents were filed October 29, with Centennial Housing and Community Services Corp. as the debtor and listing four attorneys with the Raleigh firm of Hendren, Redwine & Malone...
