Plymouth’s own JaunKerra Leigh has made her mark in Guilford County as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate. Having spent over six years working in education, Leigh is confident and capable in her ability to be a steady source of guidance, advocacy and comfort for parents and children navigating life’s many challenges.

With a sense of compassion that rivals her commitment to helping young minds thrive, Leigh is doing her part to make a lasting impact in her community, one child at a time.

Taking her current vocation into account, it’s no surprise that Leigh grew up wanting to make a difference in the lives of others. As she tells it, she has always wanted to help and understand her fellow man.

So much so that after graduating from Plymouth High School in 2014, Leigh attended North Carolina A&T University where she fostered an interest in psychology.

“I’ve always been interested in helping people,” Leigh says. “For the longest time I thought that was going to carry me into the medical field as a pediatrician. But I quickly realized that I didn’t have a big enough interest in math and science to go into that direction. I was always more of a reader and writer, so that’s the direction I went.”

Not long after graduating from A&T in 2017, relocated to Greensboro where she settled in as a school counselor for the Guilford County school system. Later, she decided to return to her alma mater where she pursued and received her Master’s in school counseling in 2021.

In addition to her work with the Guilford County school system, Leigh is particularly proud of being a part of the private counseling sphere. As part of The Inner Encounter practice, Leigh does her best to help foster positive relationships between parents and children and bridge generational gaps between them when able.

For Leigh, being a valuable listening ear that their parents and guardians may not always be able to provide is personally very near and dear to her heart...
