JROTC Cadets take on Summer camp

A dozen Washington County JROTC Cadets racked up five days of training last week at Fort Barfoot (formerly Fort Pickett) near Blackstone in southcentral Virginia.

The contingent was among 250 Cadets from 25 schools and units in Virginia and North Carolina at the ROTC Cadet Leadership Camp that gives students an opportunity to hone the skills acquired during the school year, while meeting and interacting with like-minded young people from around the region.

Organized into three two-platoon companies, the Cadets rotated through a series of field stations and classrooms covering topics like first aid, water safety and rescue, rappelling, drill and ceremony, group problem solving, conflict resolution, physical fitness and even basic rocketry...
