County adopts new no-smoking sign ordinances

Amended ordinances are in place to regulate signs throughout Washington County and prohibit tobacco smoking on county premises after a second round of public hearings Monday, October 7.

Commissioners continued consideration of the two measures at September’s meeting, asking staff to bring more specific details on both subjects.

There was no public comment in September or at the October 7 session, and both amended ordinances were approved by unanimous votes after brief discussion of the material provided in the commissioners’ meeting information packet.

Consideration of the smoking prohibition in September centered on how the ban would be enforced. Information reviewed last week clarified uncertainty, specifying that:

• Smoking and the use of tobacco products are strictly prohibited at all times in county buildings, vehicles and grounds (including parks), except in or within 10 feet of designated locations...
