County OKs historical markers for nation’s 250th

County officials are on board with plans to memorialize the region’s role in the American Revolution and the birth of a nation as part of the nationwide 250th anniversary celebration.

In a unanimous vote last week, Commissioners approved the placement of a historical marker, or way sign, at the county’s annex in Roper, formerly Windows on the World. The marker draws attention to Revolutionary War Col. Edward Buncombe, a little known planter whose 18th Century lands were located near present-day Roper.

The 250th-year observance in the county also calls for placement of a way sign at Shiloh Church of Christ.
