Last week was a tough one for the Washington County Varsity Girl’s basketball team, facing back-to-back losses against both the Perquimans Pirates and the Gates County Barons.
When we last left the girls team, they were riding high after a relatively close but undeniable 50–45 victory against the Edenton Holmes Aces Friday, January 3.
However, as soon as the Panthers took to court against the Perquimans team Tuesday, January 7, it was apparent that they were in for a tough night.
The first quarter saw the Pirates build a massive solid lead over the Panthers with a 15-8 score. Although the Panthers improved during the second quarter, putting up seven points just behind the Pirate’s eight on the scoreboard, the Pirates remained ahead, going into the halftime respite with a score of 23-15...
