Jimmy Wood Asby

Jimmy Wood Asby, 88, of Plymouth, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Washington County to the late Floyd Woodrow Asby and Sarah Blanche Phelps Asby and was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jane Speller Asby; sister, Dianne Asby Cole; and brother, Eugene "Gene" Asby. 

Jimmy was a retired superintendent of #5 bleach plant and pulp mill at Weyerhaeuser Corporation and was a member of First Christian Church.

Jimmy was a lover of all sports, especially baseball. He coached little league for many years and he was also a traveling umpire for High School Babe Ruth baseball. 

He also loved playing golf and spending time at the country club and also enjoyed his many travels in his motorhome.

His family includes his daughters, Jennifer Asby Jones and husband, Steve, and Jamie Asby, both of Plymouth; sisters, Joanne Griffin and husband, Wayne, of Edenton and Brenda Sloan of Windsor; brother, Aubrey Asby and wife, Neil, of Wilmington; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 25, at First Christian Church in Plymouth with Jimmy Elks officiating. The family received friends at the church following the service in the fellowship hall.

Arrangements are by Maitland Funeral Home, Plymouth.
