Ever since its debut last month, Karate has been the source of ongoing fun and a different sort of physical outlet at Washington County Recreation Center’s gymnasium.
Thanks to Charles June Karate Institute, a Greenville-based school that has been teaching the Japanese art of self-defense since 1982, Karate has been a well attended mainstay of the Center’s Tuesday evenings.
As such Rick McAdoo, a 60-year practitioner of the art and a teacher so talented and experienced that he’s earned the distinguished title of “Kyoshi”, has spearheaded the nightly sessions.
Under his leadership and guidance, over a dozen adults and kids alike have become the latest practitioners of Okinawa’s most cherished martial art.
Here, the classes are less about the classic katas and movements common to the discipline, but rather a fun introduction to basics of striking, defense, mobility and general overall physical fitness as an introduction to greater instruction.
McAdoo and crew hold class at Washington County Recreation Center’s gym Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. through 8 p.m.
